Night at the Opera

The Most Famous Chess Game Ever Played || "A Night at the Opera" (feat. in Netflix's Queen's Gambit)
Paul Morphy was invited by the German noble Karl II, Duke of Brunswick and the French aristocrat Comte Isouard de Vauvenargues to the Opera, only to be met with a chess board when he arrived. Morphy is said to have produced this most beautiful checkmate while sitting with his back to the board, trying to watch the opera.
The song is an imagined conversation between the two lead characters of the opera Morphy was attempting to enjoy.

A brief synopsis of the plot of Bellini’s Norma.
Norma, the high priestess of the Druid temple, who had two children by Pollione, the Roman proconsul of Gaul, breaking her Druid chastity vows, discovers that her lover is now in love with her friend, the young Druid priestess Adalgisa. Norma tries to convince Pollione to give up Adalgisa and return to her, but he refuses. Norma publicly confesses her fault and is sentenced to death by fire. Pollione is convicted for pursuing Adalgisa in the temple and goes to the stake with Norma.
